iCab is an alternative Web browser. It supports HTML4, image filtering, cookie filtering, bookmarks, java and javascript support, search modes, importing of Web archives from Explorer, download manager, and numerous useful features not found in other browsers.

What's new in version 6.3.7

Added a new option in the "Websites" settings for the default URL scheme (http or https), which is used to autocomplete incompletely entered URLs
A new „URL mapping“ feature (accessible via the "Tools" menu) has been added. This feature allows you to modify URLs according to your own rules before the respective webpage loads. Using this feature, you can redirect certain webpages to others, filter tracking parameters from the URLs, open alternative webpages, and much more. The feature comes with a set of predefined rules, but you can also define your own custom rules.
The following predefined rules are provided:
- YouTube Embedded Player: These rules allow users to switch YouTube video pages to the "embedded" version, which contains only the video; there are no comments, no suggestions, and (currently) no ads.
- YouTube Shorts: This rule automatically redirects YouTube Shorts to the regular video page, so they load in the full video player instead of the stripped-down Shorts player.
- Reddit: Redirects to the old/classic Reddit layout
- Tracking: Various rules for removing tracking parameters from URLs
Note: The „URL mapping" feature should be used with caution, as websites aren't designed to handle it and may not always work properly. However, it can certainly help you avoid some of the web's annoyances.
A new option is available in the context menu for links: "Download (Save in…)“ allows you to select the destination folder where the download should be saved (as an alternative to the default download folder)
Several visual changes have been made for macOS 26/Liquid Glass
Pocket has been removed as an option for the reading list because the Pocket service has been discontinued
Bug fix: When loading ZIP-based web archives from older versions of iCab, an additional empty window might have opened

"Version 6.3.4 (2025/06/17) - Bugfix: The Workaround for the bug within the Apple developer tools still had an unwanted side effect. - - Version 6.3.3 (2025/06/17) - The latest macOS developer tools from Apple have a serious bug which can create broken code for some Intel Macs and macOS releases. This resulted in crashes on certain Intel-Mac and macOS releases. Not affected by this bug were Intel Macs with macOS 10.x or Sequoia, and Apple-Silicon Macs. Unfortunately, unlike any other web browser I use, iCab gives me "Kubernetes Ingress Controller Fake Certificate” on certain web sites claiming self-signed certificates. That’s the end of road for me, I’m afraid, except maybe viewing local web sites from files.

Note that the download linked file for v6.3.1 is named 6.2.1 in the name, but does indeed contain v6.3.1.

I've written to the dev to PLEASE (1) Repair iCab's ability to detect updates, which it does NOT. (2) Repair the link coded to "Help/iCab Web Site", which uses the ancient "HTTP" address, which no longer exists, causing a browser ERROR. 😝 👎 *sigh*

Wait, what? Somebody ought to update their marketing copy, or else this browser is way behind the times. It supports HTML4? But HTML5 is the current (and final) release, which was released to the public in 2008! And (Internet) Explorer has been deprecated beyond the realm of usability. Unless iWeb is targeted for Luddites who never moved into the 21st Century, and expects them to PAY for the privilege of running it, I can see no valid reason to even consider this in place of a modern, secure and high-performance web browser. Heaven knows, there are plenty of them out there, and none of them ask for payment.
